Hola, Amigos.
Vamos a ver mucho baloncesto.
El lunes y martes, yo quiero ir a Worlds of Fun. Yo voy a Worlds of Fun mucho. Es mi lugar favorito en Kansas City.
El miércoles, jueves y viernes, nosotros vamos a San Antonio, Texas. Vamos a ver el Alamo. El Alamo es un lugar famoso. También vamos a comprar muchas cosas (lots of things). A mi, me gusta comprar.
Nos vemos (we´re seeing each other).

Ideals to lesson plans to actual classes

It's amazing how far ahead I plan out my classes. I planned out today's class nearly a month ago and I was so far ahead of myself I think I overshot. Although my students improved on their language skills, I could tell that few of them were REALLY into it. I need to work on the hook.

I talked with one of my very good friends. A little older, hilarious, well-rounded, tells great stories. I'm not surprised to find that he openly admits to being disrespectful to his high school teachers during class and how his teachers didn't believe he would amount to anything. So why does it surprise me that many students I like outside of class can cause so much trouble inside class? Why am I surprised that many high schoolers don't take high school seriously?

I can't expect that they will "artificially draw motivation" from the "this is good for you" or "it will help you when your older" lines. I can only do what worked for my friend: hook them.

Make it so interesting that they can't help but be pulled into it.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about lesson plans taking for granted that students will be interested or they won't. I need to find a way that their curiosity, interest and their belief in their own success overpowers any misbehavior.
